What It Corrects

Paint Defects We
Eliminate

Most cars accumulate these over time — especially from automated car washes and improper washing technique.

Swirl Marks

Circular scratches in the clear coat caused by automated car washes, dry wiping, or improper wash technique. Visible as spiderweb patterns in direct sunlight.

Water Spots

Mineral deposits left behind when water evaporates on paint. In Texas hard water, these etch into the clear coat if left untreated.

Light Scratches

Fine scratches in the clear coat from key grazes, brush contact, or debris. If they haven't penetrated to the base coat, machine polish can remove them.

Bird Dropping Etch

Bird droppings are acidic and etch into paint when left in Texas heat. Machine polish can remove mild etching — deep etching may require wet sanding.

Oxidation

UV exposure breaks down the clear coat leaving a chalky or hazy appearance. More common on older vehicles or those without regular wax protection.

Hologram Marks

Buffer trails left by improper machine polishing. These are actually introduced by bad detailers — we correct them properly.

Your Options

1-Step vs
2-Step Correction

The difference is how many polishing stages we run — more stages = more defect removal = more time.

1-Step — Most Common

1-Step Paint Correction

Single-stage machine polish with a cutting compound. Removes the majority of light defects in one pass.

  • Removes light swirls and water spots
  • Removes fine scratches in clear coat
  • Significantly improves paint clarity
  • Best for newer cars or light defects
  • Typically 60–70% defect removal
$250

Best for: Vehicles 1–4 years old, light swirling, regular wash habits

Ceramic coating combo: If you're getting ceramic coating, paint correction beforehand locks in the corrected finish permanently under the coating. We include 1-step correction in our standard ceramic package and 2-step in the premium package.

Self-Check

Do You Need
Paint Correction?

Look at your car in direct sunlight or under a bright light. Do you see swirling circular patterns in the paint? That's clear coat scratching from improper washing.

Run your finger across a clean panel. Does it feel rough or gritty even after washing? That's bonded contamination — clay bar will help, and paint correction may be warranted.

Does the paint look dull or hazy compared to how it looked when new? Oxidation and micro-marring kill gloss — machine polish brings it back.

Are you getting ceramic coating? You absolutely want paint correction first. The coating locks in whatever condition the paint is in — correcting it after coating would require removal and reapplication.

FAQs

Paint Correction
Questions

Can all scratches be removed with paint correction? +

No. Paint correction removes defects that are only in the clear coat layer. If a scratch has penetrated through the clear coat to the color coat or primer, machine polishing won't fix it — it would require touch-up paint or a repaint. Carson will inspect your paint and give you an honest assessment before you commit.

Does paint correction thin the clear coat? +

Yes — machine polishing removes a small amount of clear coat. This is why it shouldn't be done excessively. A DA polisher removes significantly less material than a rotary. Most factory clear coats can handle 3–5 correction sessions over the vehicle's lifetime before thinning becomes a concern.

How long does paint correction take? +

1-step correction: 2–4 hours depending on vehicle size. 2-step correction: 4–7 hours. We work panel by panel under inspection lighting to ensure the result is correct.

Will swirls come back after paint correction? +

They will if you go back to automated car washes or improper washing. After correction, we strongly recommend switching to two-bucket hand washing or contactless rinse. If you add ceramic coating, the coating adds a layer of scratch resistance that slows re-contamination significantly.
